I’m still learning, like everyone else. And I can also say this with confidence: the sunset in the photo above was taken from the deck of a home I manifested using the practice I’m about to describe. If you’re curious whether your thoughts can help shape your life, I’ll help you explore it.
Manifesting and “praying”: what’s the difference?
These days it is extremely common to hear people talk about what they are manifesting, but it wasn’t always like this. We used to say that we were “praying” for the things that we wanted. There are some subtle differences between these two concepts — and a vast difference in how they are performed.
Whole books have been written on this topic, and the method that I use mostly comes from a wonderful book by Pam Grout entitled, “E-Squared (10th Anniversary Edition): Nine Do-It-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality.”
The practice (step by step)
Here are the steps that I would lead you through if we were to do this together:
-
Do your prep work, identifying what you want to manifest in positive terms, as well as a smaller sign that you have been heard and that what you are manifesting is coming to you
-
Get comfortable
-
Check in with your parts and resolve anything that is pulling you away from the present
-
Perform a body scan to enter the liminal space where you can access the realm of possibility
-
Visualize what you want to manifest in as much detail as possible, including the impact on as many aspects of your life as you can imagine — what would your life look like if what you want to manifest had already shown up? Set a timeline for when you expect to see your work show up.
-
Gratitude is the most powerful key. We are grateful for what we have already received. So we do a time-travel trick and imagine that we are living in the future, where you are living the life that includes what you are manifesting. Then you say a big “THANK YOU” for the privilege of living such a beautiful life.
-
We ask for a small sign that will happen in the next 24 hours that will confirm that we have been heard and that what you are manifesting is already on its way.
-
We release what we are manifesting into the realm of possibility and trust in the universe to supply the ways and means. Letting go is a necessary part of manifesting. If you hang onto it, then it’s your job. If you release it, then the universe can take it up. You don’t need to know how things are going to happen. You only need to trust that it will happen and then let it go.
Doing it solo vs. doing it with support
That’s it in a nutshell. You can do this alone, and I encourage you to do it regularly. I also find it’s easier to stay on task and follow the steps when you have somebody holding space and guiding the process, so you can focus on your creativity instead of the mundane work of tracking each step.
Your turn
If you have a story to tell, please feel free to leave it in the comments. It’s always a pleasure to hear about the creative work that other people have done — together we can encourage each other to proactively create the lives we want to live!
